Save Primeval: New World

Primeval: New World, the Canadian spin-off from the UK's Primeval, has been cancelled by Space.

The show's first season has recently finished broadcasting in Canada and is currently airing in the UK on Watch at 9pm on Tuesdays. It is believed that the main reason for Space's decision was lower ratings than hoped for.

This is sad news for fans; the UK show (which had five series between 2007 and 2011, with the first three exclusive to ITV and the fourth and fifth in partnership with Watch) is currently on a hiatus which could prove to be permanent, as ITV has not commissioned a sixth run of the show and it has struggled to find a commission from the remaining broadcasters, due to difficulties in financing it without ITV.

However, all may not be lost for Primeval: New World. Its producers are in talks with other broadcasters, of which there are quite a few  the show has been sold to a total of seventeen markets by distributor Entertainment One, including the United States, although SyFy has yet to begin showing the series in that territory.

There is a petition and Twitter hashtag (#SavePrimevalNW) to save the show, and meanwhile, a DVD (but no Blu-ray) of the first season can now be pre-ordered in the UK.
